The season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday. Lent is the season of fasting, prayer, and almsgiving. During this six-week period, we prepare to celebrate the Paschal Mystery: the passion, death, and resurrection of Our Lord.
All are encouraged to prepare their hearts and minds during the season of Lent by joining in prayer and participating in the liturgical and communal prayer experiences offered by the parish during this most holy season. -
Penitential Regulations
- Abstinence – Catholics 14 years of age and older must abstain from eating meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and all the Fridays of Lent.
- Fasting – Catholics between the ages of 18 and 59 (inclusive) are required to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.
- On these days one full meal is allowed. Food may be taken at two other times during the day, in order to maintain strength according to each one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted. Liquids, including milk and fruit juices, are allowed.
- Penance – Each weekday of Lent (with the exception of solemnities, namely St. Joseph Day on March 19) is also an obligatory day of penance to be marked by prayer and increased devotion to spiritual practices.
- Some recommendations are daily Mass, Adoration, increased personal prayer time or spiritual study, self-imposed fasting or abstinence, works of charity, almsgiving, Stations of the Cross, the Rosary, retreats, and especially the sacrament of Reconciliation.

Penance Service
Tuesday, March 26
All parishioners are invited and encouraged to attend our Lenten Penance Service in the main upper church.
Several visting priests (usually 10-12) will hear private confessions and help us prepare our hearts for the passion, death and Resurrection of Our Lord, Jesus Christ.7:00 PM Extra Confession times will also be offered during Holy Week for those unable to attend the Penance Service (above).
