My name is Emily Meyer and I’ve been a parishioner at Nativity of Our Lord since the fall of 2019.
Growing up, and especially when I moved out of state for college, when I would think of home, I always thought of my home parish, St. Andrew’s in Elk River.
So when I moved to the Twin Cities after college, I wanted to find a parish that was just as much as a home for me. I spent several months going to different parishes every week for Mass and never went to the same parish twice.
Toward the end of the summer, Nativity was next on my list. I got to 11am Mass a little early and no one was in the church yet. I sat down and instantly felt at home. From that moment, I knew God had given Nativity to me as my new home.
I very quickly got involved in the Faith Formation activities at Nativity. I started teaching 5th grade Faith Formation on Wednesday nights, then moved to teaching Confirmation preparation classes. I met so many wonderful people during the several Adult Faith Formation Zoom studies we had during 2020.
And I have also been involved in starting a youth ministry program at the request of a group of our teenagers. I have loved getting to walk with the middle schoolers and high schoolers of the parish, and I know God is at work in this growing ministry.
Youth ministry is a passion of mine and I am so blessed to have been given the opportunity to volunteer over the last several years. God has now blessed me even more by giving me an official position here at Nativity.
This summer, I will join the parish staff as the new Assistant Director of Small Group and Youth Ministry.
I am so excited to continue my work in the parish as a staff person and I cannot wait to see where the Lord takes us as we begin this new journey.
